Tips for home office creatives
AI won’t end the world. Every time a new physical application has been used to free humans from a task or externalise a thought, we have panicked. And we are not just referring to modern-day inventions such as machines, television or smartphones… Socrates himself already said that writing went against the cultivation of thought, because it undermined the development of memory (until then, pedagogical transmission was oral). And yet here we are, alive and kicking.
AI will not end the world, but it will change it, very much and very quickly. But this paradigm shift that we can all, in one way or another, already foresee, will mean that good ideas will be a treasure, because ‘downloading’ them will be within the reach of anyone with a computer. And, as we do not dislike this, we are going to roll up our sleeves even more to create offices whose environment helps creativity, as it is, in our opinion, the quality of the future.
Today we would like to use our knowledge to give some advice to those of you who have a home office, of which there are more and more of you, and have to decorate it yourself. Here they go:
1) Opt for spaces that are as flexible as possible
Because a change in space can clear a collapsed mind. The sensation of change always helps to nurture new ideas, which is why modular and flexible furniture is ideal for reinventing spaces when we feel that there is no more room for them.
If there’s one thing we specialise in at Rocada, it’s modular furniture: from Be Soft sofas to Skin blackboards, and including our Natural model that converts from a table to a blackboard in a click, they will allow you to give your space a touch of renewal whenever you need it.
2) Blackboards are essential
Because they are the most graphic, immediate and organic way to express that great idea that has crossed your mind. And because that’s where that idea stays: in plain sight. You will observe it (and it will observe you) even when you don’t want to, and, at the least expected moment, you will get a spark (eureka!) on how to evolve it or carry it out completely.
That’s the magic of blackboards.
3) Colours are a visual stimulus
Colour plays a crucial role in stimulating creativity. Colours such as blue and green are associated with calmness and concentration, while yellow and orange can fuel creativity and energy. Why do you think we don’t settle for the white version of our whiteboards? Because some people work best in environments that invite calm, while others fuel their ideas with caffeine. And each one is helped by a colour.
4) Nothing beats natural lighting
And this is the only thing we can’t help you with: we wish we could sell windows with sea views, but not for now. Proper lighting is crucial for a creative work environment and it is scientifically proven that natural light improves mood and productivity. What you can do is supplement it with artificial lighting that mimics as closely as possible what a clear day would offer.
